ok, ive read almost everything on how to view divx avi's, but nothing seems to work.

ive downloaded 2 of the same movie....but i cant view either of them....

my computer config

os: NT 4
directx: 6 (or the most recent for NT)
windows media: 6.4
divx codec: divx 3.11 alpha

my problems

file1: opens in windows media 6.4 and immediately tries to dl a codec--MPEG 4 from Microsoft is what is says
then it says it fails and it then just plays the audio (which is perfect)

when i right click the file this is what is says under properties:
352 x 288, 25680 Frames, 12.500 Frames/Sec, 44 KB/Sec, Unknown Format

file2: when i try to open it in windows media it says file format is invalid.

properties:352 x 240, 24 Bits, 155236 Frames, 29.970 Frames/Sec, 21 KB/Sec, DIVXMPG4 V3

HOWEVER, when i open it in TMPGEnc and try to convert it to mpeg-1 for vcd, it can be previewed (it plays real slow) and converted to mpg

what is wrong with my computer!!???

any and all suggestions would be much appreciated!

solutions i've tried:
installed divx codec 4
reinstalled windows media 6.4
reinstalled directx

I've got the same problem in XP. Try using a different Divx player. Gdivx works fine on my XP machine; there are probably better ones.

"DIVXMPG4 V3"

That codec description is indicative of DivX v.3.11. Are you sure that you've properly installed the 3.11 codec (Did you run the "Runmefirst" installation file?)?

It sounds to me as if you might have downloaded a DivX with SMR (Shadow Movie Realm) in the title. If so your going to need to go here (http://www.smrmovies.net/) to get the codec. It seems SMR have developed a "new" codec to encode movies, but decided not to tell anyone. Hope this helps!

Good Luck!
