New to this board but have seen the posts about reinstall of SP-1 system files to fix firewire issues with SP2. ( I eventually had to format & reinstall SP1 )
I have a new pci combo usb/firewire card coming that is WHQL certified.
I'm hoping that this was my main problem when I last updated to SP2. ( I lost my Maxtor DV external drive, and connectivity with my Panasonic DV camera after SP2 )
I intend to remove my old pci card which drove my media reader, external drive, and pass through for the camera. Remove the references to these devices, then update to SP2 via Windows Update instead of the CD.
As to date, has anyone really nailed the fix for firewire beside what I have mentioned & seen in the older posts?
Thanks,
Arborist

I was able to get my cam working after doing two of the things listed in the following link:

1. copy the files from the SP1 cab folder

2. register the QVD.DLL file

I worked out a war plan for SP2!
I've ordered a new PCI combo card with Intel bridge chip, Texas Instruments Firewire chip, & Nec USb chip. This card beats the C*ap out of the Via card I'm using now.
"Dumb down the computer"
Remove the pci card that powers my (usb) 9in1 media reader, my external Firewire drive & ilink.
Update to SP2.
Reboot ::evilaugh:
Rename SP2cab to SP2cabold.
Plug in the new PCI card and let XP install the SP-1 drivers.
Plug in the media reader.
Plug in the external H.drive.
Plug in the Mini DV camera.
Reboot :evilaugh:
Rename SP2cabold back to SP2cab
That should keep the SP2 drivers from ever messing with my configuration! Unless MS gives us another hotfix!
