Added a couple of features to Folder Cache 3.2.
It now has support for external search apps like Everything and FARR that pop up with a hotkey. Pressing Control-C sends the hotkey, then the text via macro. If you pop open Folder Cache and the folder isn't in the list, just type a partial string into the input filter and hit Control-C and let the search engine find it!

If no bugs surprise me I'll add the features to ReOpen soon. See Folder Cache Change Log

For those who prefer to download from well-known sites, the latest version of ReOpen is currently on Softpedia.com:

Folder Cache 3.32 - ReOpen 2.72

added Fast Last Four Folders to Tray Menu with selectable Hotkey. See Readme.

edit: Softpedia hasn't caught up yet so for latest versions visit my
Hotkeys Page

edit2: adjusted the code so that if one or more of the most recent 4 folders are invalid then the list will continue to be processed until either 4 folders are launched or I run out of list.

I've been working on the Hotkey Selection Dialog used in Folder Cache and ReOpen. It provides for some dual key modifiers(like Control Alt as example) and adds single letter main keys c,e,r,v,x (so that you can do stuff like Win+R to open the Run dialog.)

Currently it's compiled into Pasty v. 1.3 as sort of a test bed. When I think I have the bugs out I'll update Folder Cache and ReOpen. If anyone wants to bug hunt in Pasty you can download from the same page as the above 2 programs:

I've updated Folder Cache to 3.5 and ReOpen to 2.9. Both are available on my site.

http://www.favessoft.com/hotkeys.html

The only change is support for more hotkey combinations.

Updates: Folder Cache 3.6 and ReOpen 3.0

Both have been updated to offer more background colors on Glass enabled systems. Also I added a function to try to detect if the background color is bright enough to wash out white text, and use black text for those. The color selection dialog background color and text both change dynamically for preview.

Latest Folder Cache and ReOpen builds add Space and Arrow keys to the available hotkeys.

ReOpen is also available for download from Softpedia:

ReOpen 3.0.1.0 and FolderCache 3.6.1.0 both have the same bug fix for incremental search. If you are using either please update since the fix avoids previously deleted folders and/or applications from being reinserted in the ListBoxes by the incremental search routine. IOW, the fix should eliminate dead items in the ListBoxes.

Suggested enhancement for FC for keyboard enthusiasts:

Allow "spacebar" to open selected folder. I like to go to a folder in the list with ther up/down arrows and pressing the spacebar to open would be great.

Thanks for considering.

Regards

I tried to implement this but it kind of kills off the keyboard input of the incremental search. The reason I can have the Enter key launch selections is that it's a terminator key for the incremental search input line. If you hit Enter, I take an action depending on which control has the focus. A space tends to be in the middle of a path and isn't a natural terminator. If you try to type "C:\Program Files" for the folder in incremental search, you won't get past "C:\Program" since the accelerator will keep eating the space key. I tried Space with some modifier keys but they tend to be taken by global hotkeys, like Alt-Space to open a window's System Menu.

If you think of another control key or alt key combination not likely to be in use I can give that a try.

(Les, you might like this change..)

FolderCache 3.7 - ReOpen 3.1 - Now when tabbing into a ListBox with no selections, the top item is selected. This eliminates the need to play around with the arrow keys to select the top item when tabbing into the ListBox.

Folder Cache 3.71 - ReOpen 3.2

Added code to disable the hotkey while the About Dlg is showing. This fixes a hang if for some reason the user would press the hotkey while the About Dlg is up.
