i really like my macbook's ability to create profiles for different internet access and now i stumbled upon a freeware for windows, which seems to do the same:
Mobile Net Switch Mobile Net Switch .... enables you to use your computer on more than one network with the click of a button. Mobile Net Switch allows you to automatically select the correct drive mappings, printer settings, IP settings, WiFi settings and much more! Using your computer on multiple networks has never been so easy! The powerful easy to use interface allows you to configure your computer for every network you will be connecting to (Workgroup or Domain). It's the perfect solution for everyone with a mobile computer who is using it on more than one network (e.g. when you are using your machine on multiple locations, offices or at home). Each location is stored in a profile. Simply select a profile and your drives will be mapped correctly, the correct default printer will be selected, IP Addresses will be set correctly, the correct Proxy Server will be configured, and much more. You will be able to use your machine on any network with ease! This unique program allows you to: * Configure a Proxy Server, Drive Mappings, Default Printer, Dynamic outgoing (SMTP) mail server. Time Zone, IP Addressing and much more for each location you use your machine. * Switch these settings without needing to restart your machine * This program also enables an administrator to allow none-admin-users to configure network settings with the click of a button. * ...and it can do much more; Windows is Multi-Tasking, Mobile Net Switch makes it Multi-Network. Features Mobile Net Switch is a network switch utility, also called a netswitcher or multinetwork manager and enables you to create multiple network profiles. The program has been designed to allow you to switch between several network profiles instantly, without needing to restart your computer. It also incorporates a professional yet easy to use interface and even allows you to enable none-admin users to configure network settings without technical knowledge. A (network) profile can be created for each location. With the click of a button the following settings can be modified instantly: IP Addressing (IP Address, Subnet mask, WINS, DNS, Default gateway), Internet Explorer and Firefox Proxy Server settings, Drive mappings, Internet Connection Firewall / Windows Firewall, ISA Server Firewall client 2000 and ISA Server Firewall client 2004, DNS Suffix, NetBIOS over TCP/IP, WiFi, WLan, Wireless Zero Configuration, WEP, WPA, WPA2, Internet Explorer Start Page, MAC Address, Dialup and VPN connection, Dialing rules, Default Printer, Mapi (Outlook) Profile, Time Zone, Outgoing SMTP mail server, Hosts file content, LMHosts file content, Sound volume, Sound mute, Wallpaper, Display Resolution, Numlock state, Restarting network cards, Enabling and disabling modems and more. Mobile Net Switch is freeware and can be found here: CLICK! |

Wow, what the heck doesn't that thing do.
The verdict is in, yesterday's Jig-Swap Puzzle was a big hit with my wife & daughter. |

Todays download (Global clipboard) was interferring with my son's limited logoff. When I tried to delete it, my Comodo firewall went crazy as the program was trying to contact an IP. Suspicious activity if you ask me. Todays game Lines Deluxe gave me another problem, so I deleted it. The problem is my son's login is to a limited account. (He will be 4 and this is to prevent bad downloads) I changed it to an administrator account and downloaded and activated and played the game. I logged him off and rebooted. I went into my login and changed his account from administrator to limited again. I logoff my space and went to his. The game would not play. Any ideas what I did wrong??? ![]() PS: I had downloaded into my area originally and tried to give him a shortcut BUT that would not work either.

Just have your son play it when you are logged on... I know when I was 4 I didn't even know how to use a computer, so it shouldn't be a problem
![]() Now if he was 14, maybe I'd worry, as by that time I figured a way around all my parents' weak attempt to filter me... but it shouldn't be an issue. If you're just worried that he might do something accidentaly, try one of those Kids browsers, that automatically filters stuff, I think there's one called Kidsplorer, not sure. (When I was growing up we had dial-up and there was no such thing as limited accounts... so I am still used to installing everything under one account)
