Grand Theft Auto IV censored in Australia

Rockstar Games has today confirmed that the version of Grand Theft Auto IV which will go on sale in Australia will not be the same version which gamers in other countries will be unwrapping later in the day.

Why don't they do what they do with CDs which is offer a clean copy for the kiddies and a un-edited version for the adults

Australian doesn't have a 18+ certification for games, unlike movies, so games have to be 15+ or they don't get released.

The government is trying to put through legislation that allows for 18+ games, but it will take some time before it happens (it's a new government, just came to power).

A recent research showed that the average age of gamers in Australia was 28! Which makes the lack of 18+ certification a joke.

If the censorship thing is true, I suspect the (region-free) US PS3 version of the game will be a best seller here in Australia.

Who would have thought that Sony would be the one to help people with region-free stuff!
