Default MediaCoder - universal audio/video transcoder

i have come across this freeware converter and i loved its simplicity, functionality and reliability

it's a must-have for anyone having to convert formats every once in a while

i tried it with an MP4 => AVI (xvid) conversion and it worked wonderfully where numerous other products (many of them commercial) have failed completely!

give it a try

Promising... sounds like the ultimate tool. I'll run some MP4 -> (something else) tests myself once it's downloaded.

looks like a nice simple app

btw mp4-->avi doesn't need any encoding-- use YAMB to extract to raw h264 format, then AVC2AVI to create your avi file

for mp4 (ASP) you can use YAMB to extract directly to avi

@ geno

i didnt install any particular codec but of course you may have to install xvid in case you're going to convert into this format

@ anonymez

they're just containers, easily (de)muxed. AVC in avi isn't a good idea though, best to keep it mkv/mp4

for actual encoding mp4-->dvd/any format imho avisynth directshowsource() with ffdshow (or better yet coreAVC) enabled for playback will do the job most quickly and reliably

YAMB does practically everything with mp4, even vobsub muxing as of recently!

Default WMA to AVI

I'm new to this, hope this is the right link for conversion of WMA to AVI. I tried MediaCoder and it converted the video side fine, but I got no sound, can you tell me what I am doing wrong. I am trying to convert some Logitech webcam video I received onto a disk to send to my mother-in-law, but I either get no sound and a good picture, or good sound and a fast picture. I've tried a few different programmes now, just need a free one that works as it isn't something I'll be doing a lot of. If you can help I would appreciate it!

I've converted the Logitech files using MediaCoder and they play on Nero Showtime, but nothing else. How do I now get them onto an VCD or DVD, can anyone help, I'm a real novice at this

U probably did not configure the Audio conversion properly. In the lower half of the window Select Audio and then on the right side select the format(e.g Lame,AC3 etc.).

BTW,I liked the tool very much.Thnx to UncasMS for pointing us towards it.I used it to encode to Xvid avi.Very satisfied. It uses Mencoder for the job.But I would like more experienced people(especially Anonymez) to use it and give their valuable opinion.I personally feel this can be a more than useful conversion tool for beginners.

Does this program convert to the ipod video format? I think it is mp4.

I'm looking for a good converter for that media. I've tried the Jodix one but it seems to only really do avi's. I've managed only about 50% of the RealMedia files I've tried and none of the dvd files have worked.

Any advice?

Thanks.
