I'm just curious to know what you expect to accomplish by doing this (Other than DIMINISHING the quality of the video)?

Simply play them with Windows Media Player (already installed on your system), Sasami Player, Zoom Player, BS Player, and probably 100 other players...

"The KiSS DP-450, set for release in late October, will enable playback of videos encoded in DivX versions 4.xx and 5.xx. Additionally, the two companies are working closely together to develop future products that will be "DivX Certified" and offer full compatibility with all versions of DivX video."

If this is what you are referring to, I would ask you two questions:

              1) It is now December - do you know if this product has as yet been released (vaporware?)?

              2) Did you read the end of this advertising blurb that states, "offer full compatibility with all versions of DivX video."?

                1) if it doesn't exist i'd like to bluddy well know whats under my VCR

                2) it doesn't support support anything under divx 4 and they have said it never will due to legal issues.

No need to get profane - If you read my post, I merely ASKED IF it exists (Primarily because a Google search didn't disclose any sites actually selling the hardware - just lots of reviews and forum postings)

What was the cost of this unit?

                          "four-cc code?"

The FOURCC code is some very basic information that appears in the header of .AVI (DivX-compressed or otherwise) that identifies, by means of a 4 letter/digit alphanumeric code, which video codec was used to create the video.

Many times, simply changing this code within the file's header creates the ability to play the video with a different (Read as "playing a DivX v.3.11 video using the DivX v.4.xx or 5.xx codec").

The DivX v.3.11 codec generates two different FOURCC codes, as follows: "Low Motion"=DIV3, "Fast Motion"=DIV4 (Yes, using uppercase is important).

Therefore, in order to "legitimize" your collection of v.3.11 videos for playback on your nifty piece of hardware (Yes, I'm a bit envious ;>}) by simply changing their FOURCC codes (either with a hex editor or a small program named appropriately, "FOURCC Changer"...
