    Nero and Burn Modes

    A new version of Nero is out and many people appear to be advising the use of the DVD-Video burn mode now

    Can someone please explain the difference between using UDF, UDF/ISO and DVD-Video mode please. I have always been advised to use UDF/ISO with Nero - are there playback quality or compatibility issues between the three modes? Should I move to using DVD-Video?

    Although I don't have first-hand experience in this regard, logic would seem to dictate that if the NERO publishers saw fit to add a new, SPECIFIC "DVD-Video" burn mode, that would be the appropriate mode to burn DVD videos...

      The DVD-Video mode has been there a while now and well before the current release. I guess I just want to know what the difference is between the modes so I can make an informed decision on what to use

        Dump Nero, all the modes causes different compatability issues with different players.
        try a different burning program.
        Disks burned with the latest version of nero DVD Video mode no longer play on a player which played perfectly disks burned with the previous version of Nero in the same mode etc; etc; etc;

        Really be brave try something else, it worked for me.

              Having asked around the concensus seems to be the following -

              1. If you have the Sony burner or Player- ditch Nero and go for the other products

              2. Latest version of Nero works fine with most (except Sony) burners/players

              3. Always use UDF/ISO mode as this uses UDF 1.02 which is the most compatible format. DVD-Video uses 1.05 which causes problems with some players (I have yet to test mine)

              4. There are no quality advantages in any of the formats, just compatibility, so if you are burning for your own player only find a burner/format combination that works and stick to it!

                Thanks Bocabob

                Maybe I should bring this Sony back to Circuit City, and get the new Plextor?

                  Your last entry on the list says it all! Read all the other threads on this in this form and Doom9 and you will see that your Sony burner and Nero are a marriage from hell. Try using UDF/ISO mode for the burn - if that fails use another burning program - Instant VOB seems to be the favoured option. Do not ditch the Sony - its a good burner but Nero is a no no.

                  Good luck.

                    What is this Cdrdrv.cpp ...that is always in a failed burn

                    Still having problems even w/ VOB Instant, but can't figure out how to add files to burn %^}

                    Went over to try Nero again, and all that worked was copy DVD, I did a Playstation game...both a DVD and a CDR...both burned w/ using the wizard!

                    Now I have been compareing the Log files, and looking at other log files that are posted around...and it seem that one line is always apearing in failed burns!

                    What is this Cdrdrv.cpp ...that is always in a failed burn, and wasn't involved in my succesful burns?

                    Could it be a wrong SCSI driver installed?

                    I included the good copy burn as a attach file!

                    Any Help or sugggestions!

                      Sounds like a firmware problem or even faulty drive, Maje sure you have the latest firmware first. If you still get problems I would suggest you return the drive and go for another brand which is less fussy with Media and burner software.

                      Suggestions -

                      Pioneer A04/A05 for DVD-R/RW
                      Phillips DVDRW228 for DVD+R/RW (My drive - no problems with cheaper media and Nero on UDF/ISO mode with all my players)

                        I have the update! I'm hoping maybe it is a few too many Drivers installed!

                        Any one know how to clean out my drivers and make sure that everything is installed correctly?
