Members asking one question then never post again

Has anyone noticed if you look down at the birthday list that just about everyone you click on has either posted none at all or like 4 posts then they never post again. Don't you think they would learn a little more if they stayed and looked around? Maybe post a couple questions (that haven't been posted before)?

I once posted on some forum only once, never came back again cause all i had was 1 simple question. I guess that relates to the people with 1 or 2 posts, or those who only post with problems, but hey, forums are fun and to help people.
Did you know you can SEARCH the forum? Fixes common problems too:
    http://forum.digital-digest.com/search.php

Also search on the whole Digital-Digest website:

Re: Members asking one question then never post again

That's just the way things work, not every one is as interested in Digital video as some of us are. And you can't really force people to stick around.

If you like statistical trivia, think about this. The forums has more than 14000 registred members, less than 100 of these has posted more than 50 messages. And close to 1/3 of all messages has been posted only 10 different people.

In the last year, since I have been registered, I have learned tons of stuff about divx and digital video. In my opinion, it is ok if they only have 1-4 posts if they use the search button and learn something about their problem...

Ok I now have a better understanding but don't you think Admin could set up something like if you haven't posted in like a year or 6 months or something like that we could get rid of your username? Otherwise we really aren't getting true statistics about how much Divx-Digest is actually growing

I suppose it would pretty neat, to be able to see, for example how many different people have post anything within the last week, to get an idear how many active members there are.

But I don't see any need to drop people just because they can't be expected to return to the forums.

The problem with removing users is that either their post's author changes to "guest", or their post gets deleted. I think it would not be a good idea if the forum was full of "guest" posts, nor would it be a good idea to delete posts, and more importantly, the valuable answers to these posts.

The original idea for this forum was a place for Q&A, where questions can be posted, and answers can be searched - that is assuming people actually use the search function

i am new to divxdigest but not new to divx i have close to 2000 of them now on cd's, and this is the first day i have posted i posted earlier asking a question i had about replacing the divx 5.02 codec so this is my second post. now why dont i normally post? why have i never registered as a member before to post any of the things i have learned while playing with my divx? for me it came down to this - all you really have to do is pay attention and read other people's posts and then most of your questions will be answered. most of mine were thus giving me no need to register. or ask a question. no need to post when i have no problems.

it is perfectly fine to maybe register and dont post more than lets say 10 posts in 12 month.

i rather consider postings annoying that ask questions that have been answered more than once if only the user had taken some time reading/searching this forum.

consider it arrogant, but i simply keep ignoring those kind of postings because i'm feed up with the laziness.

Nah, not arrogance, simply annoying. Not that I'm exactly a senior member, but it's pretty annoying to see people who don't bother searching the archives first.

Ok I now have a better understanding but don't you think Admin could set up something like if you haven't posted in like a year or 6 months or something like that we could get rid of your username? En contrare, that DOES show how much divx digest is growing. Even if 13,900 of those people signed up once and left, those are still people who have used the forums for a question or 2, and have most likely browsed the rest of the site. Growth doesn't necessarily imply activeness. Now when those people get another question, where do you suppose they'll come?

DD has quite a large customer base, doesn't it?

As of now, at 5am, there are 5 members and 200 guests.

Just to give you another idea of how to measure the forums' relative user base (do the math )
