    Pls?? I really need help...

    Hi, Hello and good day!

    Is there anyone here who wants to help me? I really need help 'cause I can't watch my DivX movies
    My precious DivX movies! What shall I do!

    When I play the movie it suddenly starts to play fast....vey fast.
    And it happens only with the movies I got on HD not DVD's, played from the DVD player. It is really strange 'cause I've tried to use a different DivX player and different DivX filter...I've tried alot of things but the problem is still there. It happens with some other movies too, like .MPG but not .mov.
    I would really like some help if someone know what the problem might be....

    oh btw...I got an AMD athlon XP. 1.6 Ghz and GeForce 2 MX400 if that is of any help

    pleeeeaaaase???

    Although I've never experienced that kind of problem it sounds like a codec-problem.
    If you can see video you sould have installed some codec.But which one;
    Try installing again the old codec divx 3.11 and the new one divx 4.12 if you haven't already done.
    Hope it helps you.
    ....come to take a trip with me in Future World.

        Have you tried using another player?

        When you installed the 4.12, did you answer NO to the question about 4.12 also playing the 3.11 moviez.?

        Does it start playing fast from the beginning?

        Have you tried to recode it in Virtual Dub ?

        Just a few suggestions, cause i've never seen this problem before

          i've tried other players like "the playa" and some others but the problem is still there.

          No, it does not start to play fast from the beginning. It starts at different points in the movie. And the strange thing is that the hotter my computer is, the more often does it play fast.

          I've tried virtual dub and even some pther programs but either is the problem still there or is it sync problem who I can not solve with a sync-fix program (don't ask me why)

          phew! Nor have I seen it before. It sure is strange
          The problem is always there...even in my games, the movies play fast. But thanks anyway...

              Jippie

              Now we are very curious which audio property is causing this problem

              AC3 or maybe a 48.000Hz sampeling ............. keep us informed

                Maybe some parts of your computer are broken (overheated). It might be the clock or the chip on the soundcard that adjusts the frequency. I think that many (all?) video-players play the sound with a fixed frequency and adjust the framerate to fit to the sample-frequency. If during playback the sound speeds up the video will also run faster.

                What happens to the sound when the movie goes faster? Dose it goe faster too?

                  This message pops up when I open one of my movies in VirtualDub:

                  Vitrual dub has detecteed an improper VBR audio encoding in the source AVI file and will rewrite the audio header with standard CBR values during processing for better compability. This may introduce up to 17961 ms of skew from the video stream. If this is unacceptable, decompress the *entire" audio stream to an uncompressed WAV file and recompress with a constant bitrate encoder.

                  ...But when I've done that the audio and video doesn't play equaly fast....I tried to fix that both by my self and with VD but it is alway a few seconds wrong.

                  Another strange thing is that a msg pops up when I open a WAV fiel that I extracted from a video that says that the format is unsupported or that a codec is missing. The solution to that is to first make the WAV fiel into a mp3 and then back to a WAV file...THEN is plays. There MUST be an easier soultion than to sit 3 hours and compress and uncompress files...

                  The audio of the current movie that i'm using to solve the problem is at 48000 Hz audio

                    aahhh....sorry benderman didn't see your msg.

                    Your idéa is interesting but the movies can start to play fast when I just started the computer and start a movie......I can see how many degrees the computer is inside when the computer starts. When the computer has been on a whole day the temperature inside is never over 44 degrees. That SHOULD be normal....but I don't know about the soundcard....
                    I think the problem is more digital....

                        Where do I find the 4.1 DivX codec?
                        dix-digest does only have 4.12!

                        I tested one mpeg movie and it played fast too...and yeah, everything over 5 mins have the problem

                          What did you do .............. just extract the wav out of the avi ?
                          In that case you might want to consider this ( i've posted this before so i just copy and paste for you

                          Extracting sound out of an avi
                          video ---> direct stream
                          file ---> save Wav...

                          - Load this wave in Winamp
                          - options ---> preferences ---> Nullsoftt diskwriter plugin [OUT_DISK.DLL]
                          - configure whereto the file will be saved
                          - hit play
                          You will end up with a HUGE uncompressed wav file

                          (There are other ways to extract the audio to uncompressed audio, but this is the one i use)
                          .

                          This file is in PCM-format and computers just love this one

                          This huge file you can compress again in VDub to for example MPEG layer3 128kBit/s 44.100Hz stereo
                          And while your at it also convert the samplingrate into 44.100 (if you want to make a vcd out of it -otherwise leave it)
                          Selecet WAV Audio ... (your huge pcm wav file)
                          Hit save avi as

                          But still .................. this can't be the silution since you've said that all your DivX-moviez play fast (and even a mpg)
                          So there must be something else
                          but i don't know what

                          Maybe some more ideas come dropping in

                            I think you should test it with another soundcard. Sounds like a broken soundcard to me.

                              I don't think the soundcard is BROKEN since the computer is quite new...

                              As I said before: I think it's a audio problem 'cause when I extract the audio of the movie inte a WAV my computer can't play it. I've checked with the PCM codec wich I thought was the problem in the beginning but eveything is okay with it.
                              I don't know if this is the name on my soundcard but I think so:
                              VIA AC'97 Audio controller (WDM).

                              It something with my audio codec/s...

                              As for another soundcard...I've tested at another computer and it works perfect there.

                              I do think about reinstall win98 (that's what i'm using right now)
                              I think that would solve the problem...but I WILL try to find an easier solution first....
