DVD Drive not found by RPC check

Hello - This problem has just stopped me viewing DVD's except in file mode (PowerDVD)

I have enjoyed about 2 years of DVD viewing both R1 & R2 - DVD Genie and a RPC-1 firmware has enabled switching regions. I have Win98SE with a Panasonic MD1402 Drive

Now the RPC check does not register and DriveInfo says I have no DVD Drive. ASPICheck says everything is OK.

I recently added a CD-RW Drive to the system and InstantCD burning software. In the Drive properties of the DVD it seemed to now think that it was also a CD-RW. I uninstalled the burning software but things are not back to working.

Is it possible that my DVD drive has got locked?
I can't play any region DVD except via file mode and this means that all menus don't work and subtitles etc. are missing.

    Can anyone help?
Do I need to re-flash the DVD drive?

    Please

"In the Drive properties of the DVD it seemed to now think that it was also a CD-RW"

If you're referring to the "Properties" information you see when, from the desktop, you rightclick on the drive, this is not out of the ordinary under Win98SE (Actually, it probably says "CD-ROM").

Perhapsa part of your PowerDVD installation has been corrupted. Try uninstalling it and then reinstalling - then reboot.

    Or try installing WinDVD...

Thanks - Showshifter may be culprit!

      Thanks setarip

I will try the PowerDVD re-install

However, I didn't remember that I had also recently installed "Showshifter" - a TV Capture & viewing program - It also includes a DVD player (I hadn't noticed this part). This enables me to view DVD's and coupled with DVD Genie to change region I have watched R1 & R2 discs. The front-end of the player is not good but it works.

The DVD Drive region code was reported as 'UNKNOWN : [not set]' when I re-flashed the RPC-1 driver. How come I was able to switch regions?

Should I un-install Showshifter to put things right?

        SORTED - ASPI wrong

        Hello

I recently installed 2.71 version of ASPI and this seems to have been my mistake.
When I re-installed the old Windows95 APSI driver everything is back to normal. I can watch any region DVD again on PowerDVD or ShowShifter etc.

I think upgrades are sometimes a pain - on older equipment anyway.
