AVI Splitting

Hey @ all out there,

I've got a big Problem. I want to splitt some AVI's thus I created but with WindowsXP, my new OS it doesn't work. When AVIChop v0.2 (this is the tool I use) wants to start with the second file WindowsXP gives an error report. Who can help me? Thank's for all good posts.

Use Nandub for splitting your AVI

afaik avichop is easy to use but only does a good job when you want to split MB's
Maybe avichop isn't compatible with XP (dunno ........guessing)

With Nandub you split on keyframe and i'm still loking for the first avi icannot split (and without audio out of sync)

As a word of warning, please do not use AVIChop, Pecks Power Join or AVI Devil to try and chop an AVI because you are likely to get corrupt files

....................and it seems YOU are likely to get some.

I don't really know what you mean with "MB-splitting", but if you mean to cut the video after a number of MegaBytes that's exactly what nandub can do.

Learning all the time

I thought you could only split at keyframe or time with Nandub
How do you cut on megabytes then (not that i want to use it, but i would like to know )

Edit -> Go to last keyframe ... -> "type in the value for MB"

By the way: you can split avi-files ONLY at keyframes without (partial) reencoding. I don't know avichop, but I think it also can't chop anywhere else than at keyframes.

Hi DJSunSky,

I had problems to with AviChop02. But could fix it. I'am using XP-prof English. When you right-click on the avichop02.exe file and go to the tab Compatibility, you can tell XP how to run this program. I set it to Win98/ME. Now it's fine, no crash after the first AVI.

Hi Abdul,

I used VirtualDub and later, when that did not work for me, Nandub, but I still have problems with it. I ripped and coverted the movie with EasyDivx and/or FLASKMpeg. And used a 2 pass with codec 4.12 and AC3 sound. The AC3 sound is in the AVI file. However, VirtualDub and NanDub can not split the AVI file into 2 files without losing the sound. When I use Stereo sound when ripping, it's OK to split it with VirtualDub or NanDub.

Am I forgetting something or can this not be done. Instead I used AviChop v0.2, but that is not as acurate as VitualDub. It can split the Avi into different files but not exactly at a new scene.

I tried to find this AC3-mod version, but could not find it. I only found VirtualDub 1.4.8 Build 13719, and that's the one I used.


Sorry, still . Found it when scrolling down on page. Downloaded version (AC3) 1.4c and 1.4.8 . Will try 2night. I'll get back to you.

I tried the VirtualDub with AC3 support, but that did not work for me.

What I want to do is this; I have a AVI with AC3 within it. This file I want to split. Splitting is no problem with whatever version, but in any version I lose the sound. When I split a AVI file with stereo sound it is fine.

VDub-AC3modified works for me. Set both "Video" and "Audio" to "Direct Stream Copying", then set your start and end points for the first half and from "File" dropdown, select "Save as AVI" (name this file something like Movie1of2.avi). Then, without exiting VDub, select "Move to end of selection (NOT simply "Move to end") then select "Set selection start". Then select "Move to end" (NOT "Move to selection end") and select "Set selection end". You have now selected the second half. From the "File" dropdown, select "Save as AVI" (Movie2of2.avi) and save.
