Media Player 9 problems

I recently upgraded to Windows Media Player 9 and have had nothing but problems since. I can no longer play older avi files. I tried to uninstall it and return to an earlier version of media player, but have not been able to do that either. Microsoft's "help" is useless.

Can anyone help me get rid of Media Player 9 and return to an earlier version?

I really appreciate the help.

Just click Start->Run->"mplayer2.exe"

That'll give you the old version 6 of WMP.
