PowerDVD4.0 - Error Code F4D41436

hey guys,

need your help, cause I'm about to smash my friggin hardware in my computer. i don't know
since when, but recently I can't seem to playback dvd's on my pc using the powerdvd4.0 player.
when the main window opens, i get this:



"Error Code: F4D41436

The TV Out port of your display card is not working properly."



Ok, so I'm like why do they even care. When I press the Detailed button, I get this:



"This copy protected disc can not be played when the TV out function is enabled."



But the problem is I'm not even trying to watch it on tv, I want to watch it on my pc-screen.
It just happens so that my graphics card has a tv out, but it's not active or anything. Is
there a patch or something I can do so I can watch dvd's again?

There have been several postings over the past few months regarding this specific matter. The solution is to download and install the older NVidia driver(s)...


"The 41.09 and future drivers have more stringent checks in the driver to comply with the latest Macrovision requirements. If the TV encoder does not support Macrovision, you will get the "Macrovision Distribution Failed" error message or a similar message depending on which DVD software player you are using. The BT868 and Conexant CX25870 TV encoders do not support Macrovision. If your graphics card is equipped with one of these TV encoders, then it will not support DVD playback with our 41.09 drivers and above."

thx for the info on the possible solution to my problem. I'm just gonna use 2 dvdplayers, in case powerdvd won't playback I'm just gonna use the other one.
But I still don't understand why I can't watch "The One" on my computer screen, while it's being played on my TV screen without any problems and error messges. Doesn't PowerDVD get that it's way easier to tape off the TV screen then off a computer??

the problem lies with nvidia, not with powerdvd

...so... did you find ANY software to play dvds with the latest nvidia drivers... I haven't, rolling back the drivers was the only solution for me.

Well basically I use PowerDVD4.0 for DVD's who don't have that new Macrovision thing going on where a msg popps up saying that my tv-out is not working properly. if that software doesn't work, I use nvdvd2.22. unfortunatelly, while using nvidia's software I got to know in another thread that I can't have ac3 filters installed, otherwise you get an error msg saying that nvdvd couldn't find nvidia filters. And there's one more way, maybe a crude one, to playback dvd's. Just make use of the "secret" dvd player u find in the windows directory ( in case u use win me ) called dvdplay.exe

Thanks, i might try that, allthough dvdplay.exe (windows\system32\ in win xp) pops up media player 9, that i just hate; and nvidia detonator drivers v40.27 works just fine without the hassle of irrational macrovision messages.

You can find the REAL DVDPLAY.EXE on the Win98 (or Win2K)installation disk, if you happen to have it...

well I'm not saying my option is to be preferred, it's just my way of dealing with crappy nvidia drivers I still don't get why ac3 filters would bother the overly nice nvdvd player. but what I can't fathom at all is why powerdvd will let me play those protected movies over my tv-out on a tv screen ( where the video content can be easily taped ) and won't let me play it on my pc screen where it takes a lot more effort to tape it.
but what I have to say is that this forum kicks ass. I haven't been here for a while but my attention was drawn to it by that long nvdvd post. I already tried to contact the nvidia support ( both the english and german ) but I didn't get any feedback. but here, users come together and just find out what's wrong and what can be done. simply awesome. I'm not trying to kiss ass, I'm just so happy that I finally can solve the ac3filter/nvdvd problem

thanks, i would be able to find it on a win98 disk.
currently i'm using <b>media player classic</b> to play dvd's (just for the sake of it, allthough dvd playback still has some bugs). It probably relies on codecs/drivers installed on the system, but it still is the only decent AND free software dvd-player i've come across.

I've got the same problem when i try to watch my new led zeppelin dvd.
The solution is to install older nvidia drivers?
where can i find old drivers?
Is there another solution?

i had 2 error codes:
error code 8090000d
error code f4d41436

and with this forum i fixed both

i only wonder if the 40.27 wont reduse my performance too much

If the choice is (only possibly) reduced performance versus NO performance due to Macrovision/video-out/video-in restrictions, I'd suggest it's "No Contest" ;>}

well i meant gaming performance... does anyone know if i'd better use new drivers or wont it matter much... (specs: AMD 1400, 640 mb sdram, 64mb gf2 400mx)
