Star Wars DVD - September 2004

Star Wars Original Trilogy coming to DVD this September!!!

Only one extras disc though. Didn't Lucas say that the only reason he didn't release Star Wars sooner was because he wanted to get more extras footage - and is one disc the best he can do after making us wait 3 years?

They should provide a DVD-9 extras disc for every movie, as there are tons of things you could include (a 1 hour documentary for each movie, director's commentary, both the theatrical and special edition cuts, deleted scenes, isolated music score - basically, each movie should get the same treatment as the far inferior prequels). The recently released Alien Quadrilogy 9-disc set comes to mind (2 versions of each movie, 40 hours of extras!!) as a good example (so I would not be surprised to see a Star Wars Trilogy Special Limited Collector's Ultimate Extreme Edition soon ...).

The Star Wars trilogy are few of the biggest movies of the last century, so they deserve the best possible treatment. I mean, just the Star Wars Christmas Special can take up a whole disc by itself

George Lucas has said he will only release the four disc boxset i.e. you cannot buy them individually. It's very similar to the Indiana Jones Trilogy Box Set.
Also has said he will NOT put the original theatrical version of the movie's but instead the edited versions with slightly improved special effects and sound.

The special editions are nothing more than a gimmick, and apart from a few deleted scenes, adds nothing to the original (in fact, takes away a lot from it - the "Greedo gets it" and "Jedi Rock" scenes comes to mind). The original theatrical cut should be on the DVD. The best Star Wars SE movie is still Empire Strikes Back, because it had the least "improvements" made to it.

The edited versions have been slated by the publice because the new edits have dodgy graphic scenes
