"area limitation" problem

Sorry for the newbie question. I'm trying to make a copy of a European DVD that can be played on an American DVD player. (It's not a commercial DVD, just a recording somebody sent me.)

I used DVD Shrink 3.2 to copy the DVD to a .iso file on my hard disk, and checked the "region free" box. Then to copy the .iso file to DVD I used SONIC RECORDNOW DELUXE, a program that came on my PC.

When I was done the DVD I made would play on my computer but not on my home player (Sony DAV-FR8 home theater). The message on the screen said "playback prohibited by area limitations".

I thought the "region free" checkbox would get rid of this problem. Do I need to use something like Nero to burn the DVD? Any other ideas how to get a DVD that will play in the US? Thanks.

Try to first ripp it to your hard disk with DVD Decrypter - then put in thru DVD Shrink for compression and then burn it.

Thanks. I did look through the FAQs and have been searching
a lot of places on the net.

Anyway I did the first part, ripped the DVD to hard drive using
DVD Shrink, to a .iso file. And I determined with IfoEdit that
the file is PAL format.

So now how can I convert it to NTSC?
