New SATA drive problems (w/ sound)

    Hey all,

I put in a new Maxtor Diamond 10 SATA 250 gig, and for some reason, my audio controller isn't working ie. no sound and it isn't recognised.

All the latest drivers but I get a 'invalid data' screen when i go to install new AC 97 drivers.

MSI - 6590 board, MX 4000 AGP card, 1.5 gigs RAM, and on board sound.

    Am I missing something?

    Thanks!

    Bob

Do you have the audio card installation disc?

    Is it on board audio?

Then it is on the "Motherboard - Installation CD" that came with the motherboard.

Install the drives from the actual CD that came with the motherboard, then update from there.

BTW...the funny thing is, sound still works on the old IDE PATA drive! Just not the SATA...hmmm

                  Just to close this matter...

After didling with this problem for 3 days, I had to mirror my old drive to the new one using MaxBlast 4. There was no other way to get sound back again...But, in the process I lost system restore and msconfig.

Looks like a repair install is next...
