Problem with one of my Xvid videos

Ok, here's my situation. I have 13 Xvid video files, 12 of which run perfectly fine through all my media players. I mainly use Media Player Classic to run them but there's one video which doesn't play properly on it at all.

All I get is a green screen and the video runs for only 6 seconds although the videos length is actually about 22 minutes. The same thing happens on all my other players bar one which is a built-in media player for a file sharing program called Shareaza. When I play it through that it plays perfectly for the proper length of 22 minutes.

I don't know if it makes any difference but the audio format for the 12 videos that do work right is Windows Media Audio V2 while the one that has problems uses LameMP3 audio. I downloaded the LameMP3 codec to see if that would do anything but it didn't.

How can I make that file work with Media Player classic.? Obviously Shareaza's media player has something which Classic doesn't. Can anybody help me out?

It could be an incompleteor corrupt video. If you don't have VirtualDub or VirtualDubMod already, I suggest getting VirtualDubMod and opening the file in there and see if any errors pop up.

Although I don't use Shareaza, I think the player in Shareaza handles video files differently than regular players. It would have to if it allows you to watch an incomplete AVI file (like previewing part of it as it's still downloading).

i agree with mastercontrol, there are TONS of bogus/bad files out there.
perhaps you can find another file of the same name?

if you get virtualdub, you could post a screenshot of the audio/video information of the problematic file here and also scan the video stream for errors...

the fact that it actually plays in a certain player shows that its not a fake file, but an incomplete/corrupt download.

        1. download & install "ffdshow"

        2. download & install "difvix" from http://divfix.maxeline.com

        3. run a copy of the file through divfix

it most likely is an incomplete file and or the header is corrupt. do as anonymez stated by using divfix to rebuild the header/correct any corrupt data or load the file in Virtualdub or one of it's variants (I use Vdub mpeg2) all free. click "direct stream copy" in both the audio and video tab and save the avi. this will rebuild the index and it should work.
