Please help a newbie with an error...

Installed a Sony 710A a while back, and it's worked for burning CDs, just started to try with DVDs. Creating some coasters though, and it's time to finally ask the community instead of trying to read through and try the solutions I come across. Below is the log of my latest attempt at a burn of The Incredibles (from the HD). It looks like a DMA problem, however, when I try to change the setting, it does show DMA if available, but one of the properties shows a greyed out Current Transfer mode of "PIO Mode", and I cannot change it. Can someone assist? Are there any other problems with the log? Only other thing I am wondering about is on my device manager, both dvd drives are showing up as Primary IDE channel. I can post the picts of the properties if needed too. Thanks in advance...

yes DMA is off:see here for how to fix that.

you can't do this with " -" media. see here

get rid of incd with the clean tool, it is known to be very problematic

i don't think that is a good choice for the burner you are using. my link below can help determine a more suitable media. be sure your firmware is up to date.

Thanks - Tried to fix the DMA problem by removing the device and letting the system pick it back up, but that did not work; same problem. Also tried someone's suggestion by going into the registry and removing some lines. Same result.

Changing the book type - didn't know it was doing that - based on the link, the Sony 710A cannot change that setting, so it would seem like you cannot record to DVD-R?

      Will get rid of InCD

As for the media, tried both with TDK DVD-R and Memorex DVD-R (recent purchases but do not know the exact models). And on the link provided, looks like TDK and memorex work.

      And firmware was the latest.

      Thanks again...

Still was not able to get the drive to DMA (next step is flipping the drives), got rid of the InCd, updated the firmware, and the burn worked (played it on the pc, not a dvd player yet). Strange thing is it still gave me an error and told me it was not successful. Below is the log file - so even though it worked, aside from the DMA thing, can you tell me what it thinks did not work?Nero Serial Removed*

One thing that pops up on each log, beside the DMA is your media:
          Disc Manufacturer: CMC MA - G. AM3
Your setup does not seem to like these. See Columbo's sig. for a link to
check on your blank media's compatability.

            "PMA update failure"

            "Book Type request: DVD-ROM
Changing the book type was finished with error code: 0"

you cannot do this with the media you are using.

DMA is still off, since you are having trouble you can download and install dvdfab decrypter---it has a feature that will enable DMA for you.

Please ditch the CMC's - they are just garbage. It's not the brand of disk that matters, but the media code and yours is CMC. Those 2 brands, although well known, have quality that varies greatly with the actual media.

Invest in better media. Read media quality in my signature.
