    Fill out DVD-5

    Hi folks,

Is there a proper method to filling out a DVD-5 disc - making it more full with dummy files? On a short burned disc I've noticed they won't play on just a few players I've come across. Say for instance the burn is only about 2.5Gb.

By crudely padding out that same disc with a 1Gb dummy file in a separate folder (crude test), that same disc then plays on all of the players it wouldn't previously, the players I've tested it on anyway.

There's one film on the disc, converted from avi (VSO DivX2DVD), so can anyone plz advise me of a proper method (relatively untechnical explanation) to pad that disc out a bit more more with dummy files? I'm creating my ISO to burn via this method:

    Edit: More info...

I've a VIDEO_TS folder of 2,426.5Mb which will obviously be a short burn. I'm looking to make that disc more full, preferably by a proper method of doing so? Am burning to Ritek blank media, of which I've burned loads with no problem.

    Cheers.

Yeah, I burn the ISO with Nero's "Burn Image" with Finalize DVD enabled. I should emphasise it is only a few players that can't play these short burned discs but I'd like to get it going on all.

Say if I wanted to get another gig on there (then it'd play - tested) could I use DVDRemakePro to "Merge" another DVD, then just Exit back to the players insert disc screen after title set 1 has played? I think I know how to do the post command to exit title set 1.

If so, I'd rip something from DVD - to get say a gig, and add that but exiting after the main film has played.

But would this method be crude or is it in keeping with proper DVD structure, whatever? Apologies should any of this have those of you in the know cringing but I'm by no means into DVD authoring, I'm just after padding out that short burned disc via a correct method - I know it definitely works because of the aforementioned crude tests.

Edit: Can you legitimately have any other folder besides VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS on a DVD film, or is that a non-starter? I know some retail DVD's have DVD ROM stuff for a computer but those are retail pressed DVD's?

usually 1gb is the lower limit for a dvd. the AUDIO_TS folder was supposedly originally put there for an audio dvd. You could try putting audio files in the AUDIO_TS folder and have a hybrid video/audio dvd. use a dvd rw for experimental purposes. saves on coasters

Edit: (After making the post below).

I've just been told that "Proper approach is to write a longer leadout." How do I do that, what software/burning app?

          Hi jm1647 and tigerman8u,

Many thx for your help which is genuinely appreciated, thank you. Given thought, I have decided to no longer mess around with this short burn problem, in doing so I should again emphasise it is only the absolute minimum of players I've encountered that can't handle that short burn DVD-5. One of which is an old ALBA DVD106, and another which I can't get access to for sometime now. In addition to those two, I've come across only one other player that can't play the short burn DVD-5 - from a very wide assortment of players.

Maybe I was barking up the wrong tree, but I think I've decided that as it is only an absolute minimum of players - stuff it!

Again, thx both for your time and advice - appreciated.

I am unaware of how to change the length of the lead out in a burning program
