    DVD copying

Is there a way to completely copy a store bough dvd and burn it to a DVD-RW disc? I assume i would have to paste all the different video clips and other stuff together after ripping them individually. Is it as simple as just select, copy, then paste to hard drive...then burn to DVD-RW? Any way i can get it, i want to know how to copy a store bought DVD straight up. thanx.

Most of the DVD's you buy are DVD-9 and your DVD-RW are DVD-5

You will probably not have enough space on a DVD-5 to completly copy a Hollywood moviie.

The Hollywood movies have marco-vision and or CSS encryption so when you try to make a complete copies, part of the infrormation from the DVD's can not be copied.

You can however copy the movie as it plays on a dvd set-top player, and then burn the movie to a disc, but you will not have the options that a dvd has , menu's etc.

I am not going into making, a duplicate of a hollywood movie on a disc, because for one it is not legal

well, my goal really is to make the movie alone in VCD format without chapters and those other features--but the massive 4 gigs would allow for extremey high quality and the surround sound audio. This would skim really close to dvd quality, if not exact. the encryption is not a problem. so the fianl question is simply:

can you make a VCD on a DVD-RW/DVD-R disc? simple question. simple answer, if provided.

yes you can put vcd mpeg1 files on a dvd but as DVD only allows 48 khz audio you might have to convert only the vcd audio to 48 khz(kinda easy with tmpgenc, toolame) as most dvd authoring/burning apps requires it.

I have succefully made such dvds using spruceup and sonic dvdit pe. And you will fit about 435 minutes mpeg1 vcd on one dvd.

HYPOHOTETHIC: But isn't it possible to copy a DVD when you just rip ALL the files (vob's, ifo's,...) and then burn in on a DVD?

          (Maybe it's a spudid question but I don't have experience with DVD-burning)

yes, it IS possible. I was able to do this with Office Space. Luckily the original was only 4.0 GB so all I had to do was rip the entire DVD and then burn it back to a DVD-R. This works perfectly. The problem I am running into now is with large DVD's. For example, right now I am trying to rip Star Wars Episode I. The DVD shows up as 7.82 GB which of course I cannot fit onto a DVD-R. Looking at the DVD in Smart Ripper it shows 3 Angles that are 2:15:30 in length each. What I am trying to do is to rip only the first angle with only the English 2ch and 6ch audio. No joy so far though, it still rips all angles (it only rips the audio I selected however). Anyone else have some insight on this or software suggestions?

                DVDCutter Stream

Hi, everybody, just use WinDVD, the best player in the world, Powerdvd is just a junk! if you are interested in DVD and wav->mp3,CD->Mp3, Mp3->Wav, and so on. you can visit the site: www.******.com ,(DVDCutter Stream and Mp3CDWav Converter), which I surfed last night, maybe where you can find your answer or something valuable to you. It's said that it provides a free enhanced WinDVD DTS 3.0 download.

shady1, What burning application did you use to burn the VIDEO_TS directory. I tried to write a Data DVD with PrimoDVD and it wouldn't let me burn that dir.

                          dvd copy

                          Hello everybody:
I have successfully copied a dvd (even larger ones) onto a dvd-rw using smart ripper to rip the dvd to hard drive (merge all movie vob's into one vob file)
Then use dvd2avi to decode the audio
then use tempenc (insert the one large vob and the audio created by dvd2avi) load the dvd template settings and you should edit the settings with a lower constant quality bitrate, I use 7000 as a max.
the resulting file for me seems to be only half that of movie vob's.
you also need the tempenc editing plugin for mpeg2.
then I use mydvd to make my own menu's and insert the movie.
i have not found a way to get all the menus and stuff yet, so if anyone can help out on that email me at superjewishman@yahoo.com.
