Playback problems on SONY using DVD-RB & HC

A friend of mine has a Sony DVP-NS405 and demonstrated a problem with an HC encoded disk.

When the DVD that was HC ENCODED would be played backwards (so reverse) at speeds lower than 1, so using pause and press step backwards in the reverse directtion, there were disorted picture frames and even the SONY DVP-NS405 switched off totally !!!

    That's kind of weird.

It only happens with HC15 encoded DVD's with DVD-RB-PRO 1.01final.

If he uses CCE the problems are gone.

The HC encoded disc seems not to cause problems on other players we tried.

We know that Sony players are strict in having DVD-compliant stuff.

If there is something wrong, they reject it.

Even a DVD that's has the capability to SWITCH OFF the player when playing back in slow reverse (<1 speed) is verry verry strange.

So are there any other people with this or related Sony players that uses DVD-RB with HC and try to use DVD's in reverse stepping back mode ????

    If so let me know.

I even tried myself a test encode, and I concluded the only difference was the use of HC instead of CCE.

Anybody has a Sony player ? Maybe the NVP-NS405 ?

Anybody any suggestions anbout this ?
And then there was Blue Ray........ Nothing to backup anymore......
