    Edit AVI or Mpeg

Is it best to edit a home video in the avi format using software such as Windows Movie Maker or Ulead Video Studio? Or can I do it in Mpeg format using TMGNC Media Editor or Womble Mpeg Video Wizard.
    What are the trade-offs?
    Thanks.

Ultimately, I intend to burn the movie onto dvds. I was just wondering if there would be any degradation or any other issues that would make this not a good idea. Have you used TMGNC Media Editor?

i use a combination of tmpgenc plus "mpeg tools" and tmpgenc dvd author, some basic editing can be done with dvd author alone if it's going on dvd.

Generally it's easier and better to edit in the avi format before encoding. mpeg video wizard is a good product for editing.
