Blu Ray can have up to 50GB with a dual layer disc. It doesn't match HVD (Holographic Versatile Disc) which can do 100-300GB per disc. They have a theoretical limit of up tp 1.9TB per disc.

It looks like it will be used primarily for computer storage at first.

            More info.

And don't forget the price of the new BIG screen HD-TV you will be needing

The real nice one with the digital built-in tuner.

A HDTV isn't good enough. I will need a HD Projector. My current projector will accept a HD Signal but downscales it to SD quality.

Wow, reminds me of the VHS recorder days...$1000 for the machine (JVC-HR-7650U) and $15 for Memorex T-120 VHS blank tapes

Yes, it seems you are always paying the same price over and over, the only thing different is the technology you are getting. As you had stated when BETA and VHS came out they were around $1000-$1200, and then when DVD players first hit the market they too were in the same price range. Then they set us up with the recorders, also in the $1000-$1200 range, where as today you can buy them for less than $100.

I hope that with Blu Ray by the time the technology hits the majority of the mainstream movie industry that the price of it has dropped to only a couple hundred dollars or less. But with my luck the price won't come down until after I've had to spend $1000 dollars on it.

Man I wish I wouldn't have read this post, it's kind of depressing to look around my house and see the many times I did that. Like with the 7 TVs sitting around and all of them were the exact same thing, first the $1000 25", then the 27", 31", 36" and it just never ends.

On second thought, it just never ends, oh, that is why I love this stuff so much.

At the moment, the first Blu Ray player is so far going to be $1500. Prices for both Blu Ray and HD-DVD will be high for a few years. It is not going to be a big format straight away as people need special HDTV's to view them on. This isn't a big problem in the U.S. but, very few people in the UK have a HDTV or other HD display device.

Don't forget that DVD is nine years old now which is why prices are so cheap (plus its popularity).
