    Trying FFDSHOW codec

    HI Everybody,

This is my first post, and I'll try to be as clear as I can be, cauz my "problem" is not so easy to understand and to resolve !

First, I just reinstall winxp, cauz of codecs issues (VDUBmod fatal errors with out of bounds memory) and now with a clear install, I put the ffdshow codec which apparently is one of the best, but quite complicated !

You have two kind of settings, first the DECODE for wich I found a FAQ on a french server here's the link for who wants to :
    http://forum.hardware.fr/hardwarefr/...et-36533-1.htm
and second the ENCODE settings, for wich no tutorial is available, maybe I didn't search enough !

ffdshow can encode via several encoders; Skal MPEG-4, XviD MPEG-4, lavc MPEG-4, MJPEG, x264 AVC, FFV1, WMV9, etc., etc. Which one were you using?

Your VDubMod problem could have been caused by an AVISynth plugin. I would have cleared the plugin folder before re-installing windows.

Yess of course, I tryed to uninstall some of the codec with "codec sniper" and with the uninstall shield by winxp, also avisynth, but I suppose that some of the files stayed in system dir' !! I had Xvid, Divx, X264, Avisynth, AC3decode, AviCOdec, Radlight MPC, OGM, obviously the original winxp codec pack.

You might want to try muxing the subs as xsubs in a divx container instead. If your player is DivX cerified, then it should work and you don't need to re-encode. External srt's should also work on most players. No choice in font, etc. though.

Personally (if I wanted to re-encode) I would just use XviD (via XviD) to encode. You can still hardsub, just frameserve with AVISynth and use VSFilter.

VSFilter contains vobsub and textsub. Both VDub and AVISynth versions.

No, I didn't say that you had bad plugins. Just in my experience bad AVISynth plugins can cause VDubMod to crash when loading.

Using VSFilter via AVISynth instead of VDub is better because it works in YV12 instead of RGB24. If you use ffdshow's image processing to add the subs during encoding, then it should also work in YV12.

Well it is a mirror of my files run by someone else, so it technically doesn't belong to me.

No reason not to install it. XviD 1.2cvs is fairly stable and has features/fixes not included in v1.1. You should probably uninstall existing versions first, although the only real damage is that you would be left with two uninstallers. My installer should overwrite all files and reset default settings.

I wouldn't recommend vobsub2.23. textsub.vdf and vobsub.vdf were moved to vsfilter.dll years ago. Better to load it via AVISynth though since that way you can keep the process in YV12. vsfilter contains vdub and AVISynth versions of textsub and vobsub as well as directvobsub.

You need AVISynth and VSFilter. VSFilter as I said also works with VDub though.
