    DVD Quality is Bad. ( DV to WinDV to TmpGenc DVD Author )

    Hello there, I am fairly new to this, and here my process.

    1. Sony DV CAM.
    2. FireWire Output, captured using WinDV.
    3. DVD Authored using TMPGenc DVD Author.

    Machine ( Dell 400SC, 1.5 GB RAM, 400GB HDSpace)
    Graphics Card
    - have a 64 bit tv tuner / etc card from ATi ( PCI Card )
    - onboard agp is disabled/notused.

    Issue is,
    The video from DV CAM to TV - is fantastic clarity and clear colors,
    but once I make the DVD, I have almost lost 1/2 the quality, the whole
    movie looks faded.

    1. Do I need an upgrade in my Graphics Card.
    2. Do I need a software upgrade ?

    What else do I need, please advice.

      What software did you use for encode the movie to MPEG-2 format before author it with TMPGEnc DVD Author?

          No other software.

          TMPGenc Plus is the software I use to convert AVI to MPEGII.
          Forgot to mention this step.

          1. DV to AVI ( WinDVD Capture Tool)
          2. AVI to MPEGII ( TmpGenc Plus )
          3. MPEGII to VOB Files ( TmpGenc Dvd Author)
          4. VOB to DVD ( Nero)

          I am not sure, what video - codecs i have and I need, i am very novice in this area.
          are there any OS - directx stuf - I need ?

              what quality settings did you use in TMPGEnc plus, video bitrate? to preserve quality you want the highest possible. shrink can be used after.

                      not what we need. this was an uncompressed avi, yes? what is the file size captured from WinDV?. see the basic guide in the TMPGEnc forum. others have done the same conversions you want with great success, just make sure on the video bitrate screen you have it set to max, ignore the errors and encode.

                          despite popular belief and the fact it's total data rate is 35mbps, DV is a lossy format and is already highly compressed. damn good intraframe compression at that. follow the LT's expert advice
