    "Illegal Disc" using Nero 7

    Hello,

I see that several other people are also getting this message when trying to burn DVD's. I had no problems burning until this morning. I have burned several hunderd DVD's with no problems until now. I have been using IMATION blanks. I ran out so I went and got 100 Sony blanks. I got the error when trying to burn the very first one. I figured that the blanks were bad so I returned them and got 100 DYNEX blanks. Same error.

I upgraded my firmware for my dvd burner, which is a TDK DVDRW880N and still the error. Attached is my error log. I wanted to cut and paste but for some unknown reason, I was unable to do this. Please take the extra time to view my error log and help me. I'm completely lost with my DVD burner.

Thanks, in advance for the help.

    Physical memory : 383MB (392632kB)
    Free physical memory: 90MB (93032kB)
    Memory in use : 76 %
nero 7 requires 128MB of free memory, can you try to free some up?

too bad you traded the sony's for dynex.

Or maybe buy another memory stick for your setup.

Nero7 will grab up to 282MB of memory if it is available.

Or a downgrade(?) to Nero 6.6.0.18 where there is no NERO ultra buffer used.

I like the ImgBurn idea because it is free!! A new code would have to be purchase to downgrade!

            Illegal Disc Problems..

            Hi,

I don't believe I'm having a memory problem. I have changed nothing on my system that would have caused a memory problem.

I get error messages when I attempt to burn an ISO images using Alcohol 120% and ImgBurn 2.0. Below are the errors:

            Alcohol 120%:

Interpretation: Cannot write medium - incompatible format

            ImgBurn 2.00:

Error message [05/30/05] - cannot write medium - incompatible format
Something is wrong with the recording procedure!

Does anybody know what the heck is going on here?

would you be up to trying a newer firmware?

your drive is an oem version of the nec 2500, which was an early 2510.

you can try directly flashing to dee's 2A5C which is newer and supports that media
I would download and flash from safe mode, if that does not work, you will have to use the drive converter first then flash

everything is on this page, you really have nothing to lose as that drive needs to be retired

                    Re: Illegal Disc

                    Hi,

My DVD burner is a TDK DVDRW880N. I upgraded to the latest available firmware yesterday but got the same error.

Where do you get that I have a OEM NEC drive?

                        Illegal Disc Resolved!

                        Hello,

As it turned out, I needed to use 8X DVD blanks. 16X wouldn't work. Guess I'll have to upgrade to a faster drive shortly.

                        Thanks for all the assistance.
