MXL RG03 white hub -Rs from Sam's Club

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD-R:MXL RG03]
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Disc & Book Type : [DVD-R] - [DVD-R]
Manufacturer Name : [Hitachi Maxell Ltd.]
    Manufacturer ID : [MXL RG03]
    Blank Disc Capacity : [2,298,496 Sectors = 4.71 GB (4.38 GiB)]
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
    [ DVD Identifier V4.2.0 - http://DVD.Identifier.CDfreaks.com ]
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

(Yeah, I've already dl'ed 4.3.0, but I didn't feel like installing it before posting.)

These are Maxell 8x white hub-printable DVD-Rs on a 75 spindle at Sam's Club for $27.42 + tax. Most of the spindles they had show MIT printed on their light blue shrink-wrap labels, but I found a FEW with a paper MIJ UPC sticker covering that part of the label, and this is the scan from one of those. This photo can be supersized by clicking it again in the new window.

    **EDIT**
They have absolutely NOTHING etched into the hub - no serial/batch/etc. that I can see from any angle under any light. But they have the largest printable area I've ever seen: 20.5mm inside - 117.4mm outside.

Should be top notch...I've used around 300 of the +R's. I'll check soon to see if there is a serial number etched into mine.

They've had them at my Sam's for a while, but I don't dig around because most are MIT.

even for mij that would be almost 40cents a disk and a little high

course some of them do almost as good as the yuden T02's

Don't be foolish...have you used any? I'm much happier with my Verbs than the Maxells. I was kinda disappointed really.

                MIT's or MIJ's
over at cdfreaks there have been some very good scans of the MIJ's

Verbatim's have a wide variance also, after 2 bad batches I am hesitant to buy anymore.

I've moved on to TY...still got a little of all three laying around.

No doubt Taiyo Yuden is the best media all round made in the last year, unfortunately the dvd+r's are hard to come by or very pricey. Maxell/MIJ
has been the only new kid on the block to show much promise. Of course without the scans, it's all conjecture.

I'll scan some of mine and post in the appropriate thread later...

I've burned 4 so far, but one failed verification because of some tiny scratches midway out from the hub, so I'm re-burning it. But I have to read up on how to scan them & how to post that data. Anyone wanna post a link to the thread that explains scanning? Do I have to use my NEC 3550 burner, or will any DVD-ROM do it?

You told me my Plextor 740 was actually a benq, but it wouldn't scan unless I flash it with benq firmware, right? Anybody know what burner Sony puts in the Vaio PCV-RS710GX? I guess I'll have to open the case & look...

I think so, you have to use BQ flasher, read the guide carefully before you do it
