    UK Broadband

    Any of you rippers from the Uk will know what i am talking about.

    I am considering getting broadband, for obvious reasons such as i want 2 download movies, music etc...

    But i dont know how about to go around getting it.
    i want 2 know what's the best one to get. (also how cheap they are)

    Also i would like to share my rips with others and swap with each other.

    Any advice?

    Techno (i know u coem from the uk)

    Has anybody got it? is it really that good?

    I got broadband!!!!

    I got a cable modem, your ISP gives u it. Here, it is from Telewest (suck) and is £25 per month + one off setup of £25.

    It is fast.

    You need a Network card and that is all, the guys will do the rest.

    After the year, they may put an offer for u or something, I got mines on November 2001.

    YES it is that good.

    56.6K = 10MB = 50mins to download
    Cable modem = 10MB = 10 mins to download or less!

      I wish broadband in Australia was affordable. I have one account, but with a limit of 3GB/mth, it really is no better than a dial-up account.

        enchanter i know what u mean. in london it costs £25-30 per month + one off instilation of £150. But if u move house then u loss your broadband. So thats y i haven't got it. I'm looking 4 an alternative, apart from BT ADSL.

        Techno, i dont consider the usage of a cable modem 'proper' broadband. Cos broadband does 1/2 mb per sec. Obviously it never runs at optimum speed. So i think it would download at 50kb per sec. So:

        10mb = 3min 20sec
        but cable runs at:
        10mb = 10mins

        See what i mean.

        But at least u got better then me.

          incorrect hacker on fire.

          here, it is 10MB for 2 mins for download on a cable modem, bandwidth does NOT matter, I REPEAT, BANDWIDTH DOES NOT MATTER, here anyway

            techno, you're contradicting urself. U said in the 1st post you made:

            Cable modem = 10MB = 10 mins to download or less!
            I think bandwith does matter as a 56k modem downloads faster then a 28k modem

              eh???????

              Sorry I don't follow m8.

              I am just telling u info that I know of and got told.

              Cable is much faster than a 56k modem, nearly 10 times faster. so, if u download a movie, let's say over kazaa, then u will get speeds of 50k/s and more, so a whole DVD ripped movie will be downloaded in about 4 hours at this constant speed.

              Peace my friend

                i'm comaring a cabel modem to ADSL ('proper broadband) which does 1/2mb per sec. But it never runs at this speed. It probably downloads at 50kb per sec.

                So how does a cabel modem compare to broadband (ADSL - the BT one)?

                  dunno.

                  ADSL and dsl is suppose to be faster than cable but with bandwidth restrictions in the UK, cable modem doesn't which is great.

                  But it is much faster, I mean FAST AS a ferrari.

                        I believe anything faster than a 56K line (with the exception of ISDN) is considered a broadband connection. DSL (all its variants) and cable are, hence, broadband connections. My 2 cents worth.

                            How about the movie Star Wars Episode II? Here in Australia, they have only started premiering last Thursday (16th May 2002).
