What is best video player for Linux?

Hello, I'm new Linux user and I'm interested what's the best chose regarding available video players to install? is it VLC? under "best" I mean powerful and flexible/adjustable. On Win I was Media Player Classic fan, but as I know, it's only for Windows..

VLC and mplayer are great. You'll have to enable the universe and multiverse repositories via Synaptic, then reload. Then just search for them and install.

Totem, which is the default for Ubuntu, isn't bad either.
