AVI file splitting problems, plz help

I've been trying to make a music video for the recent song I've recorded. This requires me to split avi files quite a bit, and also join some of them back together. However, I've ran into a problem where when I click on certain avi files' properties, I see a different duration of the video than if I were to open it with divx.

Example: when I click properties of keithvideo.avi, it shows that the duration is 32 seconds. But when I play it in divx, it shows that the video is only 20 seconds long, and thus playing for 20 seconds, which is the duration I want it to be. When I play it in windows media player, it shows that the video is 32 seconds long (12 seconds too long), just like properties said. This applies to more than one instance. I also can't join the video to any other avi video files.

I'm using "easy video splitter" and "easy video joiner" on windows xp. I'm thinking maybe these programs just suck. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Give AviDemux 2.4 a try. It's fast and easy to use once you get accustomed to the user interface. If it asks you to rebuild the file index or create a map for variable audio or whatever, click OK and let it do it.
