Can't back up with Nero Recode 2

I have been using Nero Ultra 7 Recode 2 for backing up unprotected DVDs for about a year. I have done this about 20 times. For about the last week, I have been unable to do so. Here is what happens.

The Encoding process completes successfully. However, about three quarters of the way through the Analysis process, I get a window saying "Compiling DVD volume failed," and an error message that says "Out of Memory." I can't burn using Nero Recode 2. However, when I use other burning software, such as Nero Burning ROM, it works perfectly.

Does anyone know what these messages mean, and what I need to do to get Nero Recode to work correctly again? I have looked everywhere through Google, and although this problem has been noted by other people, the response from the communities is to try different software. That is not what I need to hear. I am asking for help in solving this problem.

since recode and nero burning rom do 2 completely different operations and recode calls up burning rom at the end for the burn, your post makes no sense

welcome to the forum

would you please seperate the 2 processes for troubleshooting to isolate the problem

recode can be intensive(cpu and ram) also need a lot of free hard drive space

see if you can find one of the failed recode logs, they are a real pain to analyze tho

OK, I will try to post a log later today.

Just so that I am clear, I can burn with Nero Burning ROM, but not with Nero Recode. The burning process will not start using Nero Recode, because Nero Recode never finishes (Encoding and Analyzing) to permit burning.

I have about 200GB of free disk space. I am using a 3.4GHz Pentium 4 CPU, and have 4.0GB of RAM.

well it might be a ram issue? have you tried running the clean tool for nero and reinstalling the latest nero 7, that software bundle has had a lot of bugs

I used the Nero Removal Tool, cleaned the registry, and reinstalled Nero 7 Ultra. Same problem. The analyzing step completed, but the encoding step did not complete, and therefore the burn would not start. Same error messages. Once again, I was however to burn it with Nero Burning ROM, as well as DVD Shrink (and Nero Burning ROM.) The problem seems to lie with the the encoding process.

I have no idea. I also don't have a clue what this means:

It is also not clear to me why I can burn with Nero Burning ROM but not when I first try to do the two step Analyzing and Encoding processes using Nero Recode 2. What I do know is that something is happening during the Recode that prevents burning from starting.

Do you have any ideas what is causing these messages:

1. Compiling DVD volume failed.

2. Out of memory.

Is this just this one documentary or all titles? You might need to get a "structure" expert like Blutach to reccomend some tools to analyze the problem title if that's pertinent.

If the problem is system wide then we could look under the hood and try to find some solution.


You did run the official nero clean tool for 7?

I used the Nero uninstall tool and then reinstalled. The result is the same. Then I did something that makes this whole situation even more mysterious. I installed Nero on my wife's computer and tried to recode the same movie that is giving me heartburn. Guess what, it worked perfectly. The Analyzing step finished no problem, followed by the Encoding step, and then the Burning step. I played the resulting DVD on my DVD player and TV and it worked fine.

This leads me to suspect that there is something about my machine that is causing Recode to hang up shortly afer the Encoding phase. But what?
