can't burn dvds, pls help!

What kind of stuff are you burning? It looks like buffer recovery keeps kicking in. I found from saving source code trees that if you have lots of subfolders with lots of small files it will drain out the buffer and get a bad burn. If that's what is happening, try creating an ISO from the files first. Then Imgburn can keep up because it's not trying to create the image on the fly.

If it's trouble with everything, try the Nero removal tool and see what happens. Often times Nero doesn't play well with others.

edit: the other possibility is you may not be in DMA mode on the drive. Search How to check for DMA mode on this forum. There should be a step by step.

I would also raise the size of my buffer, I think a 20MB buffer is small, I have never used ImgBurn with less than a 40MB buffer and on a few of my machines I keep it set at 192MB.

Have you checked the disc to see if it works, there is times the verify will fail but the disc will play fine, maybe not as often when the buffer is constantly recovering, but it does happen.

Also seems kind of weird to get buffer underflow burning @2x (at least the log shows only recognizing 2x burn speed.)

That clue just tells you one thing, try a new blank of modern media and post that log.

That's funny, Chewy, you posted the exact same link I used to check the mid.

I noticed and thought the same thing Miles, I don't believe I even had that happen when I had a 2x burner. I would like to see if the exact same thing happens with a larger buffer.

So this drive is on an HP Laptop?

The whole thing is a tricky business. I was trying to watch a vid I put on DVD+RW 8x and kept getting "unknown disc" in the player. On one PC it burns @4x-8x on the other the burn starts right off @6x then goes to 8x. Turns out if I quick erase before burning that clears it right up. Weird. It must be if I burn on the faster burner then go to the slower because when I first used 'em on the faster burner there was no issue, even though the discs had been written on the slower burner many times. Go figure!

Have been through the "FAQ: The Golden Rules of Burning" and all is good including the DMA settings...

Yeah the drive is on a HP pavilion laptop.

I have actually completely uninstalled NERO now.

Currently I am trying to burn a video DVD, but have also been trying to burn data DVDs to no avail.

I have raised the size of the buffer to 50mb

re: Disc ID: MCC 01RW11n9 - how wierd, I only bought them yesterday as I read the FAQ and it said to use Verbatim discs. I have posted a new log below using a different disc... The 1st log above was from trying to burn an ISO image, this one is trying to burn TS folder...

Still no luck trying to burn a DVD... when I put the it into the player or computer I get ' no disc '.

Do you have anything other than erasable discs to try? They're not the most reliable. One quick thing you might try is erasing the disc first(see my post above about "unknown disc").. but we might get a better idea if you try a DVD-R or DVD+R.

Under tools, drive, erase disk, full, will do a format of a new RW.
