Good evening!
First I should point out, this problem only occurs on my Onkyo TX SR707. When playing the same file on my Onkyo TX SR506, the file plays perfectly.
Okay, the problem: Most of the .mkv rips I have play perfectly. I have a DVI -> HDMI cable going from my videocard to my TV, and a toslink optical cable going from my onboard soundcard's optical out -> optical in on my receiver. However, every once in a while, I will get a .mkv file that just won't transmit the AC3 sound from the video to my receiver. When this happens, the video plays fine, and when I plug the optical cable into my Onkyo SR506 it plays fine, but when I plug it back into my Onkyo SR707 there is no sound and it doesn't even recognize the Dolby AC3 format (red logo on receiver doesn't show up). So I usually have to turn off S/PDIF and play the file in regular stereo mode (frustrating). Also, after I try playing a .mkv file that won't transmit the sound to my SR707, no files or mp3's I play after opening the .mkv work. I have to turn off and on my receiver and then the sound works for whatever.
I'm using CCCP and MPC. All of my mkv files with DTS sound work fine, and most of the ones with AC3 work fine... but for some reason certain ones just won't work. I will play a .mp3 and the sound will work, then a .mkv with DTS and the sound will work, and then a .mkv with AC3 that I know will work, and all of those will play fine... then I will try to play a .mkv that I know previously wouldn't work and then I will try to replay all those previous files (the mp3, the .mkv with DTS, and a good .mkv with AC3) and nothing will work until I restart my receiver again.
So... earlier today, I said, that's it! I tried messing around with my settings and filters for a few hours and I actually got one of the .mkv files that I previously could not get to play, to work! I couldn't believe it! It wasn't perfect... as I could get the file to play and then I would try to play one of my .mkv files with DTS sound, and then I would go back to the initial problem .mkv file and it wouldn't work. I would have to restart my receiver once again to get the file to work, but at least I got sound from it. I'd rather have a file that transmits the AC3 sound and then have to restart my receiver then to have a file that doesn't transmit AC3 sound and still have to restart my receiver. The sad thing is, I kept monkeying around trying to get it 'perfect' and now I can't replicate the settings I used to get the file to work! I don't remember what I did, and I can't get the same file to play again for the life of me.
I'm hoping someone here has a suggestion for me
I've updated AC3Filter to the latest version, and my onboard audio chipset I'm using is the Realtek ALC888 Audio controller.
