Pirates Have New 3D Film Pirating Technology

Paramount Pictures’ chief operating officer Frederick Huntsberry has told an audience at the CineAsia convention in Hong Kong that 3D screenings of films will not stop pirates.

Huntsberry showed off a new technology that allowed 3D films to be captured in 2D and then pirated, by putting up a special lens in front of the video camera that then allows the camera to record one of the two images being displayed to provide the 3D effect.

Huntsberry also warned that P2P and particularly, digital lockers represented the biggest threat to the industry. Unlike P2P, digital locker downloads cannot be monitored, although also unlike P2P, digital locker operators can be more easily sued and stopped. He said that some digital locker websites actively promoted piracy by offering rewards for file sharers.
