Hello. I have recently bought a Sony Bravia LCD Tv (KLV-40550A) and a Sony 5.1 Home Theater (DAV-DZ690K). I have connected the Bravia and the Home theater using the given HDMI cable. When I am playing a DVD/CD, I am able to get the sound from the home theater speakers. How to get the sound from the speakers when I am watching TV? Please help me out. Thanks in advance.

maybe you will have to do something like: assign the input source (your hdmi port from tv) to any of the available options (like video1 or the like)

Sounds like it could be an issue with the TV and not outputting the audio on the hdmi cable. You need to get the TV tested, to see if that is the issue with your TV.

I've just read the DAV-DZ690K manual and the HDMI port on it is output only, it does not accept audio input. Instead, if you want to hear TV audio through the Home Theatre System's speakers, you need to connect the Bravia's audio output to the DAV-DZ690K's audio input ports. This may be coaxial/optical, or just the L/R analog audio plugs.
Then I think you need to press the "Function" key on the DAV-DZ690K's remote and change the input to "TV/Video" in order to hear sound that's connected to these ports. There might also be a setting on the Bravia to set how the audio output should work (ie. whether it should be outputted via analogue, or digital, and whether it should be outputted at all). I haven't read the manual nor do I have one so I can't be sure. Last edited by admin; 25 Oct 2009 at 06:17 PM |

And you pressed the "function" key on your remote until the front display of the HT system displays "TV/Video"?
Also, what are you watching on the TV when you are trying to test the sound? If it is a digital source, then has the TV been set up to decode the digital audio to analogue? Some TVs, when using digital audio input, can only do digital audio output which means you need to connect the composite/optical output from your TV to the HT system. Do you have any other devices that you can plug into the L/R analogue inputs just to test if the HT system does produce sound on that input, and if it does, then that might mean the TV is not outputting anything at all. And I know this may sound silly, but I've done it many times before, and that's to make sure you've plugged everything in the right place - for example, the audio connection may be plugged in to the "Audio In" port of the TV instead of the "Audio Out" port, since sometimes they are very closely located. |
