Default Software compatibility issues with 64 bit OS

I finally bought a new computer after a long and slow 8 years.
Its a 64 bit OS and am wondering which software programs I have will work.
Specifically, will the following work with 64 bit OS:

- Photoshop 7
- Photoshop Elements 7
- Nero 7

I have done some searches, but get mixed results.

Also, in general, is there a website(s) that is good to go to for answers on software compatibility issues.

Thanks in advace for your help. Jamos

I have Nero 7 installed on 64 bit Windows 7. Don't use it much, but no problems to report. It is fully updated, which I think makes a big difference from the original. Didn't catch which 64 bit OS?

Hi Soup. How have you been?

Right now its Vista home premium 64 bit, but in a few weeks, it'll be Windows 7, thank the lord.

Any thoughts on the other apps?

This is a good resource:
http://www.vistax64.com/software/

there's also a sister site for Windows 7
You can click on the 7 site from the Vista forum

I have been doing okay, busy, but that's a good thing. How have you been? You should like Windows 7, been using it for a while now. Even although I have Dual boot on 2 machines, I am hardly ever on XP anymore. No clue on the other apps, sorry.

Sometimes it's not the older application that doesn't work with 64bit OS but the aged 16 bit installer that no one ever replaced..

To complete the loop. and to answer my own questions, I finally got a new computer and just installed Windows 7 home premium , 64 bit OS.
It is in fact compatible with:
- Photoshop Elements 7
- Nero 7

Hope this info helps.

BTW, I do love my 23 inch monitor!!

I'm just curious, did it come with Vista and a free upgrade? How did you install? Just wondering about installing with upgrade discs and all that since they supposedly changed the process in W7 since Vista.

It came with Vista. I did use a free upgrade disk that was finally mailed to me.
They sent two disks, plus install instructions.
Disk 1 was windows 7 upgrade; Disk 2 was HP upgrade assistant.
I thought the insrtuctions and disks use was clear.
Did not encounter many problems. did have to update some drivers, but overall, not a big hassle. Just takes time.
so guess i am happy.
If you want more details, let me know.

Did you format the partition as in a "clean install" or do a straight upgrade or custom install? I'm curious because I tried a straight update to W7 beta 64 bit on my Vista64 HP machine and it didn't go well. But I didn't have any assistant software. Just a disc image.

jamoskeag3, when did you get your disks. Did HP send you an email when the disks were sent. I ordered mine and did get an email telling me that the disk will be sent between Nov 14 to Nov 24. I have not received another update as of yet.

I did NOT do a clean install, since i did not want lose some of the apps that came loaded on the HP. Did a straight upgrade

Did you get the free upgrade disk thru HP, or did you buy win 7? Just curious as to why you did not have the HP upgrade assistant disk. It was useful.

I got the disk around Nov 2.
I got several emails from them.

I did call them a few times to ask:
1. What was status, and
2. When erxactly was I going to get disk

What seems to be important, (besides being very insistent), is to make sure they have accepted and validated your proof of purchase. They seem to have a long queue for this process, so I talked the cust serv rep into validating it while we spoke.

Hope this helps

Yes, they have accepted my proof of purchase. Just waiting for the actual shipping confirmation. So I guess that the shipping queue is very long.
