Default Need more accurate software than Easy video splitter

so for some time now i've been using sony vegas to edit out bits from tv shows i record, either a celeb interview, or adverts from a show.

but i can't seem to render it without quality.

so i began to wonder 'why can't i just get a software that splits, i don't care about re-rendering, i just want to split the video'.

i got easy video splitter, and it works - i can make clips with no loss in quality at all.
but the software isn't accurate enough for me.
could anyone here recommend a decent software that splits video like 'easy video splitter' into segments, with no loss in quality, but more accurately.

would really appreciate some help with this. thanks.

It's interesting you asked this question, because I've just added this new free software to our software section that promises frame accurate video processing:

Smart Cutter Ps/Ts

I have tested it personally, but if it does what the description says, then it could be what you need. It's free, so I guess it's worth a shot anyway.

Smart Cutter sounds interesting. W7 doesn't like it much though. Changed back to basic theme, plus the program insists on being full screen(at least afa I could tell.) I didn't get as far as trying cutting a clip. Too much of a pain to get Rocketdock and Superbar out of the way.

Don't know if this has the same granularity but I picked start and end points at random (not going to a key frame or I frame or whatever they call it) and it was very intuitive. Click the brackets for end points and select "save this clip" from the file menu:

http://www.videohelp.com/tools/Mpg2Cut2

(It did the bit of reverting my desktop to basic color scheme while running, but it doesn't need to be full screen and the theme returned as soon as I quit the app. I'm going to try it out on Vista64 now. Looks like a cool tool to have.)

On Vista64 seems like you have to choose "never use overlay" in View menu. Also the Taskbar can get like black block rectangles, but toggling lock the taskbar and on top seems to get rid of it. (edit: after changing that setting, it doesn't seem to hose the theme or taskbar now.. way good)

(use the "latest beta" link on videohelp.. you get a single exe and readme instead of a bunch of dlls.)

I tried Smart Cutter, and don't know why it always crashed.

Personally I use womble mpeg video wizard dvd, it's frame accurate, I quite like its batch cut/export and no quality loss.

Ya, the versions before November did crash.

Several days ago, I downloaded a new version. It does not crash again. It splits and joins my AVCHD/H264 ts files well. nice. frame accurate actually.

Womble is a GREAT software, but it lacks the support for 264. I use Womble to cut MPEG2 only.
