    Scanned @ 8X with NEC3550:
PS: Note=> There is definitely something wrong with the write strategy on the 2nd half of the DL burn. Look at the different strategies at different speeds on the second half.

EDIT: My buffer was bouncing as ImgBurn was having problems maintaining 4X in speed. It was as low as 3.1X and highest was 4.1X

      1 ecc scanning interval?

not sure that's good with the nec

I remember a thread at CDF recommending that interval with the NEC.

        Should I try 8ECC?

EDIT: I started a scan at 8 ECC. I will post results when done.

leave at 8ecc and repeat scan at 5x when and if you have time, that's about what I have been used to seeing with dual layer scans, like I have told people before, it's still an immature technology

              So for comparisions sake...

I will do all DL scans at 5X and 8 ECC.

BTW same disk as 5 posts ago.

that's my theory with testing your nec as a scanner, vary the scanning speed till you get the best scans and that's only for yours, not mine or another

mine scans best at 8x, some scan better at 12x

and dual layer maybe a whole different ball game

                  verbatim 16x dvd+r @8x in my benq

looks like about the same quality as the mit sony's and not very much better than the memorex cmc mags I had a while back

Looks like I may have to scan some more and downgrade these verbs to class B media

TY will be lonely at the top

little more like it, burned at 12x, maybe the benq is still learning this mid
we'll leave verbatim a notch above sony and memorex

3rd disk off the spindle, burned at 16x in the LG4163B 5:32 almost full burn
jitter is getting a little squirley with this old drive
notice the heavy spike at 2 gigs on all three scans, that's the media, not the computer or burners

pie's showed above 12x speed, still not bad for such an old burner

Now I have 200 discs from the premium line TYG02 and that last pack of 100 shrink wrapped discs turned out to be TYG02 as well I am actually getting better results from the shrink wrapped pack maybe thats just luck LOL

I still have one pack of the shrink wrapped that I have not opened yet I am wondering if those are TYG02 or TYGo3 LOL

Here is my last Quality test with my last burn at 8X BenQ 1650

Can't get a disc quality scan

Tried numerous times, but unable to get a 'disc quality' scan. I'm able to do a "benchmark" test (although I've no idea what the results mean!), but the 'start' button is grayed out in the "disc quality" test. Using latest Nero Ultra (4.7.0.2) which I just updated from 4.60 (which hadn't worked either). Any idea what I may be doing wrong?

What kind of burner do you have? Some burners aren't able to perform the QS scan. My old LG is like that.

Like Dan said some burners wont scan. But when you get your Lite-On you can scan all you want and I think the BenQ 1620 you ordered will also
