Even the current GeForce 8800 series are "next-gen" compared to the 7800 equivalent GPU in the PS3, it's just that as usual with game consoles, there's a lot of dedicated hardware and hardware optimization to make them perform better than seemingly equivalent PCs.
To be honest, I find it hard to imagine what the next generation of games will look like - they already look pretty good to me. I guess photo realism is the eventual goal, although some games show that stylised graphics beats realism anytime (and not just games, animated features from Pixar for example). |
