I think I've tried everything, but no matter what I do, the films I have encoded stops/jumps (don't know the proper english word for it) about every 10 second. This doesn't happens when I play back the uncompressed ripped films or divX-films I've downloaded.
What I use: - Software: FlaskMPG (tried with both 0.5 and 0.6) with DivX (again with both 3.x and 4.x) - Hardware: 650MHz/128Mb, AMD KT7-Raid HELP...please! |

What resoluion are you using ?.
You should always use a width that is a multiple of 32. I usually chop the image to 704*X. khp |

I had the same problem some time ago. I only figured out that it hat something to do with the mp3-sound/codec. The sound plays a little faster/slower than the video and the video wil jump/stop to get in sync. I installed many mp3-codecs but i'm not sure which one solved the problem.
With 650MHz the CPU-Speed should not cause the problem. |

How do I select other mp3-codecs? I allready had Xing installed, and just installed Lame, but how do I choose between them?
In FlaskMPEG I press: - Select output -> Configure Output Module -> (Audio) Select Codec, but i "Format" there is only one "MPEG Layer 3". |

I don't mean the mp3-codec you use for encoding. They should all prduce the same file-format. But i think that some mp3-codecs that you use for playback (the decoder) cause problems with some cpus and soundcards.
I installed the original Fraunhofer codec and it works fine. I use the german version of win98 so I'm not sure if I can help you if you use an other version. You can activate/deaktivate the mp3-codec in "Systemsteuerung->Multimedia->Geräte". The english translation should be something like "system settings->Multimedia->Devices". |

I just found out that it plays ok on my laptop (Intel), so the problem definately has something to do with the decoding om my stationary. (But I can't understand then why my downloaded films plays ok...?)
I have the same (both audio- and video-) decoders installed on both machines (also the Fraunhofer), so it seems like the problem might be in the hardware... Last edited by RumCoke; 24 Nov 2001 at 11:26 AM |

I also had that jerking problem with five different movies. The worst was Outland, the others all touchstone movies were The Rock, Armaggedon, 13th warrior and Mission to Mars. Anyway a long while later being inspired with a new computer the new divx 4 codec and the new flask I tried again. No jerking this time. Re ripped them except for Mission to Mars which is a jerk of a movie anyway and Outland which there is probably a better dvd out of than the one I had anyway. Have done like 220 rips by now and those were really the only ones that were much of a problem. Should say too that the jerk seemed to go away after the movie credits were over.
