Default PC crashes when encoding

Hi there,

Having a big problem encoding:
Ever since I reinstalled win2K on my computer, it won't complete the encoding process with both divX 3 and 4 codecs, but hangs up after encoding for an hour or two. All that works then is rebooting.
I've tried Flaskmpeg 0594 and DVDx. And tried encoding several movies, both directly from DVD and from harddisk. When I try to open Flask 0.6 (all versions), my computer instantly hangs up. Since these problems occur with several programs, I figure it's a win2K settings problem. I have already tried installing SP2 and directX 8.1, and running Norton windoctor. Apart from these problems my PC runs totally stable. My system:

athlon 1,4 gHz
256 MB memory
40G harddisk (plenty of free space)

If anyone has any suggestions apart from re-installing windows, I would be very grateful!

Does your whole system hang totally? Or does your flask just give an error and close? I came across a problem of flask giving me a fatal error and terminating for a particular DVD rip at the exact same spot every time, so I re-ripped the DVD and it worked fine after that ...

I wouldn't know what the problem is if your whole system crashes though ...

Thanx for your reply,

One day after posting my problem, I finally discovered the problem. By then I had tried like a hundred things, eventually even re-installed windows 2000. When even that didn't work, I decided to check my hardware.....
It turned out my video-card was not inserted deep enough into the AGP-slot. After I gave it a push all my problems disappeared. Apparently the bad connection between videocard and mainboard caused the system to hang-up whenever I tried to open anything related to video.
Next time I have problem like this, the first thing I do is open up my computer and check all hardware.....
