Maybe you can use an dvd-creator like DVD Quick Builder to make an MiniDVD (DVD-files on an CD) if your player supports that CDs it could be even better quality than SVCD).

By free, do you mean LEGAL and free? if not.........I just use the newest version of Nero....

I use win on cd 3.8 for creating VCDs which work perfectly on my DVD-Standalone.
Try this one, its pretty simple have fun
