I have an old Gateway Solo 2500 Notebook with a Mat****a DVD-ROM SR-8171 and Kingmax PC Card. After months of trying every suggestion I could find on the net, I have finally realized the possiblity that the region coding for this particular system is in the software of DVDPlay itself, not in Windows or the hardware. I can use programs like WinDVD, but the picture is no where near as good as with DVDPlay -- and I don't want to have to go through switching my monitor resolution when I know it is possible to have an excellent picture just the way the system is already set.
SO, is there anyone out there that would help me test this theory by sending me their Region 2 locked DVDPlay files? If I am right, I will gladly send my DVDPlay Region 1 files in exchange if they are wanted. I am an American who lived in Germany and legally bought German DVDs to keep up my language lessons -- and I think I have a right to be able to play them! Leave a message here if you are willing to let me try this. Thanks in advance everyone! The files I have are: DVDPlay.exe 897KB DVDVideo.exe 13 Aps.dll 24 C3DVDNav.dll 72 C3Filelf.dll 15 C3VcdNav.dll 22 DVDCodec.dll 32 DVD.ini 1 DVD1.ux 139 The only other option is if anyone knows how to open "non-Microsoft" proprietary .cab files -- like the ones on the Installation CD....
