Converting DVD from foreign format

I just purchased a DVD in Russia which will not play on my Samsung DVD player (U.S.) Furthermore I don't know enough about these forums to know where to post this question as I don't know what that type of conversion is called. Can somebody either (1) direct me to the correct forum, or (2) just answer my question as best you can. Would appreciate a direct email response as I may never find this post again!!!

you have to convert it to ntsc (region 1) check here in the convert section www.videohelp.com
