Using filters in DVD Rebuilder

have you ever encountered dvd material that was fairly/extremely noisy?

well, it happens every now and then

using dvd rebuilder and thus having all the powerful avisynthfilters available it is not that difficult to improve your material


take a look at this original material:


you should be able to see the grainy/noisy areas all around


now compare the image to this encoded version:


i have used slight denoisers - of course you could "smooth" the picture much more if you need/want to

to achieve this i have put two filters into rebuilders avisynth filter editor:


these were my settings:



in case you dont have these two avisynthfilters use the attached ones - they are for avisynth 2.5x
put them anywhere you like and change the path in rebuilders avisynth editor accordingly


if you want to change the values for fluxsmooth, these settings may be a rough guide:

little noise: FluxSmooth(5,7)
medium noise: FluxSmooth(7,7)
heavy noise: FluxSmooth(10,15)


good luck


be aware of the fact that the added lines in the avs options stay as long as you dont delete and save again

in other words: the filters will be used for every title until you remove them!

Great tip, can't wait to try it out. However...

your uploaded zip contains FluxSmooth.dll, but your script refers to "FluxSmooth 25". Doing a google search, I *did* find FluxSmooth-2.5.dll (you didn't have they hypen in your AVS edit). Which FluxSmooth.dll are you referring to?

if you're using avisynth 2.5x you must use flux25!
flux.dll will only work for avisynth 2.x not 2.5x

I figured as much, which is why I found and installed 2.5 instead of the one you posted. But I wouldn't have found out about flux if I hadn't bumped into your post.

One other quick (dumb) question: I assume that all the avisynth filters & scripts work with all the encoders supported by DVD-RB (CCE, Procoder, etc.), right?

most definitely they do

that's another good example of the usefulness of dvd rebuilder: having the full avisynth power at hand

The latest undot.dll is version 0.0.1.1 dated 7 June 2004.

As UncasMS said, Fluxsmooth is 25 dated 29 July 2004 for use with AVIS 2.5.

And they are dependent on AVIS versions, which makes it confusing, doesn't it? But I guess most people are now on v2.5.

Just for the record... RME (Rebuilder's Matrix Editor) can be used for Filters test... it has a GUI control for Undot and Deen but I'm opened to suggestions about other ones

I want to try using a filter to remove grain/noise from a movie (Urband Legend:Bloody Mary is really grainy as you can see below). Which filter removes the grain/noise? And will this cause a noticable lose of detail making it look softer? Thx for any advise.

Update: Hmmm...searching the web, I found this interesting thread using LTSMC. I was impressed. It told that this helped better than Pixiedust. I haven't tried this yet though.

Yeah. I saw the impressively filtered pictures, and someone asked the "where" question with no response... I then searched around and saw a couple of other references which were also without links.
