@UncasMS

Thanks for your time and research to bring us these wonderful captures. To piggyback on what you have, I zoomed a set of yours to 200% in Photoshop to show us more details. The first picture is the original, in which yours still kind of had a little blockiness to begin with.

You didn't mention about it but I presume you used DVD Shrink 3.2.0.15

Original > DVD Shrink 3.2 w/ Deep Analysis + Adaptive Error Compensation (sharp):

Original > DVD Shrink 3.2 w/ Deep Analysis + AEC Max. Smooth

Original > HC Encoder 0.15 - DVDRebuilder 0.94 FREEWARE - LOW/FASTEST profile

Original > HC Encoder 0.15 & DVDRebuilder 0.94 FREEWARE w / BEST Profile (no matrix used/available in the freeware version)

Original > HC Encoder 0.15 & DVDRebuilder PRO 1.0 RC 5.1 w/ BEST Profile + Matrix "Very low Bitrate"

Original > CCE 2.70 & DVDRebuilder PRO 1.0 RC 5.1 w/ 3 passes + Matrix "Very low Bitrate”

Original > Procoder2 & DVDRebuilder PRO RC 5.1 w/ Mastering Quality + Matrix "Very low Bitrate”

indeed, i used dvdd 3.5.4.0 in file mode

and thanx for the zoom-in ^_~

++++++++++++

of course even source frames may already be on the edge and look less than perfect

but on the other hand we wont see differences in *easy* scenes - of course i had to look for those little suckers and (thank god) most scenes do look better with ALL engines/settings used

but a macroblock here and some noise there is what spoils a film for me and i'm sort of sensitive for them and having spotted one such flaw i'll spend the rest of the movie searching for mistakes instead of enjoying the dvd

Here’s another 200% zoomed set.

Note: DVD Shrink is the only transcoder here and the rest are encoders.

Original > DVD Shrink 3.2 w/ Deep Analysis + Adaptive Error Compensation (sharp):

Original > DVD Shrink 3.2 w/ Deep Analysis + AEC Max. Smooth

Original > HC015 - DVDRebuilder 0.94 FREEWARE - LOW/FASTEST profile

Original > HC015 & DVDRebuilder 0.94 FREEWARE w / BEST Profile (no matrix used/available in the freeware version)

Original > HC015 & DVDRebuilder PRO 1.0 RC 5.1 w/ BEST Profile + Matrix "Very low Bitrate""

Original > CCE 2.70 & DVDRebuilder PRO 1.0 RC 5.1 w/ 3 passes + Matrix "Very low Bitrate”

Original > Procoder2 & DVDRebuilder PRO RC 5.1 w/ Mastering Quality + Matrix "Very low Bitrate”

let's try it the other way around now

i give you some new screenshots and you have a guess, which encoder/options were used; how about that?

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

all screenshots were made with identical encoder/option

so how do you think this encoding was done?

My first guess is that you used ProCoder since you were partial to it.

I am not a great fool, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you. But you must have known I was not a great fool, you would have counted on it, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me.
But looking at the pictures, they look like HC's work or
HC Encoder 0.15 & DVDRebuilder 0.94 FREEWARE w/ LOW/FASTEST profile

Vizzini: You only think I guessed wrong - that's what's so funny. I switched glasses when your back was turned. Ha-ha, you fool. You fell victim to one of the classic blunders, the most famous of which is "Never get involved in a land war in Asia", but only slightly less well known is this: "Never go in against a Sicilian, when *death* is on the line.". Hahahahahah.
