Default slim ps2 vs old ps2

so, i used to have the old ps2 and it was very very very! picky about playing my burned movies, sometimes it would only play them if i burned it at 2.5 speed, sometimes it would only play the sound, it was very strange but now i got the new slim ps2 and it plays all my burned movies! no matter what!

but my question is....why? i mean it's been said by sony many times that the slim ps2 is the same internally with only a few minuscule changes on the outside like dropping the firewireport, this is strange...

That was the problem with the old PS2 it wouldn't play DVDs or it would play them then later on it would cause DRE(Disc Read Errors) from my understanding on the reason it did this was because they used a cheap lasers they even got sued over it.From what I can tell they fixed the bug in the slim PS2.

More detailed information here. Look in "Technical Issues" section.
