Amazon offers $50 credit for those who purchased a HD DVD player

It's a really good deal. You get $50 credit and it's not an exchange program - you keep your player, and you can spend the credit on anything, even more HD DVD movies.

I think the deal even applies to people who bought the $99 players from November ... that's turning out to be a fantastic deal ($50 for a quality upscaling DVD player that also plays HD DVDs and a bunch of free HD movies, plus the ability now to pick up even more cheap movies).

No. Only before Toshiba announced the withdraw from HD DVD production in February. But even buying the Xbox 360 HD DVD add-on before then counts.
