Default Universal to Embrace DTS-HD Master Audio

Quote:
Universal will support lossless DTS-HD Master Audio in many of its initial Blu-ray releases.

Paramount has said they will use Dolby TrueHD.

Read my "Blu-ray and HD DVD Buyer's Guide" to find out more about high bitrate audio and how to get the best out of it:

Do you need a surround speaker system to watch Blu-Ray movies? Or will players downsample?

Of course, I probably won't even look at buying anything Blu-Ray until we get a HDTV, and that probably won't happen until I'm in college (oh the irony)

You will need the latest surround system/receiver to get the best out of Blu-ray no doubt, but it will downscale to stereo. If you've got the (HD) TV for Blu-ray, then investing in a sound system would really help (not just Blu-ray, but also things like gaming, HDTV and of course, DVDs), and I would do that before thinking about Blu-ray.

Well do I have to worry about movies not being released on DVD and going straight to Blu-Ray? If I do get a HDTV I'll probably get a Blu-Ray player with it, and surround sound speakers would depend on our budget for the TV. Unless there's an all-inclusive package at Best Buy or somewhere, my parents probably won't buy expensive equipment a-la-carte.
